Well, when Physi Bricks got to second place in all free apps, right behind the Youtube app, I figured that was as high as it would go. However, this morning it took the first position, moving the Youtube app to second. Wow! When I first released this game I didn’t expect it to ever get this high in the rankings. I am blown away by the success it has seen. Thanks again to all who have downloaded and enjoyed playing it.
I submitted a Physi Bricks update to Microsoft yesterday morning (Nov 1, 2011 around 3am). Yea, it was pretty late. Andrew(Level Designer) and I had decided to stay up as late as it took to verify all the levels were ready to go out. It has 30 new levels using a pivot joint. I am excited for Microsoft to approve the update, so I can get it in the marketplace for you all to enjoy.
Andrew and I met last night to discuss the new elements that we would add for the next set of 30 levels (Level 61-90). We settled upon a couple new ball types and a new block type. The idea is that the new ball type would be able to change the color of green or red blocks. So, if you hit a red brick with the ball, the brick would turn green or vice versa. We would carry that same theme to the new block types and the other ball type. I need to give credit to Woody for the color changing ball suggestion.
I know the most repeated complaint is that the “game is too short”. And the most requested feature is “more levels”. It seems that many people have really enjoyed the game, but really really want more levels. So, the low down is that we plan to continue releasing new levels every 4 weeks. That is our goal and I hope to stay to that goal. As long as we keep coming up with new ideas to add to the game, we will continue releasing new levels.
Also, I have plans to create an in-game level editor. This isn’t the highest priority, but it is definitely up there. This is a little tricky on a small mobile device when you are using your fingers to move and position things. Especially with the number of different objects that can be placed and all their various attributes/properties. But, I definitely want to make this happen. I believe the community will be able to create a wealth of cool/unique levels that Andrew and I haven’t even thought of.
Any reason old ball type I unlocked in 1-30 disappear? When try to an old level they are not there too.
Yes, it is because I screwed up and let a bug out in the last update. I have fixed the bug and resubmitted it to Microsoft. As soon as they approve it, it will be pushed to the Marketplace. So, you should see a fix for this problem within the next few days.
In the mean time, as you unlock balls in levels 31-60, it will unlock them for you in levels 1-31. I apologize for the inconvenience.
Alright, thanks.
It is a great game with great reviews and your success is well deserved. Do you have any idea HOW you got so much attention? Did you do any kind of promotion?
Good Question.
I didn’t do any promotion. I didn’t submit it to any of the wp7 review sites. This is my first published game, so it wasn’t my vast experience. If I searched for “physi bricks” in google, I only came up with my site for quite a while, which to this day has only received 110 visits from search engine traffic (Hardly enough for the 150,000 downloads so far).
The only advertising it received was in the “New” area of the Marketplace. Perhaps I got in the New area at a lucky time and not many other games were submitted soon after mine.
On a spiritual note, I had been praying for a success like this for a long time. I pay a full tithe and in Malachi 3:10 it says that you will be blessed for doing so. I do feel this was a blessing from the Lord.
Well, that is all the information I have. Hopefully it is helpful to you.
More power to you. Keep it up. I’ll try to use your spiritual example to keep my own sin of envy in check!
What were your downloads in the first 3-4 days when your game was in the “New” list, can you share your download graph. I mistimed the release of Air Soccer, It was one of the very first Mango games but I released it on September 6th, well before Mango release to public so dint get any high downloads in the first week as NEW games usually get. Air Soccer Tour is my first game as well, done in Farseer 🙂
Can you also share the number of daily ad impressions you get on average? I have shared a bunch of statistics on my blog ..
In the first 7 days, the game was downloaded just over 21,000 times. As of 11/17, it has been downloaded almost 208,000 times. The daily downloads peaked on October 23 with 8,044. It has been steadily decreasing since then with 3,575 daily downloads on 11/17.
As for daily ad impressions, I’m not ready to release that information publicly for various reasons, but I do plan to release it in the future.
The game is not in Mango yet, so it can be played on both versions of the OS. I started collecting OS versions for the phones that play the game around November 4th. So far, it appears that 67% of the devices that have played the game since November 4th are running Mango. Interestingly enough, this means that 33% are still running pre-mango.
Awesome.. physibrick is really nice casual game that anyone can play – and you are lucky I must say 🙂 it really helped you to have it pre-mango. I only have 20,000 downloads in 2 and a half months. I hardly had about 1000 downloads in the first week. The max daily downloads I have had are just about 700 .. my ad impressions are now reaching about 40,000 with 1500 active users daily. eCPM sucks though 🙂
What is the music for the game? It reminds me of something from the 80’s, but for the life of me, I cant’ figure it out! I demand answers! 😉
Just a music loop I bought off of some site. It is labeled “Cold Deseret”.
